PORTLAND, Ore. --- Portland volleyball's redshirt senior outside hitter Emily Liger was named the US Bank Student-Athlete of the Month for the month of September. Liger led the Pilots offensively with 181 kills en route to a 10-2 record during the month.
Liger's 181 kills were spread out over 43 sets for a 4.21 kills per set average. This number not only ranked her amongst the best in the West Coast Conference, but also in the nation. She recorded a season high 28 kills during the 3-1 win over Fresno State. While serving she notched 14 service aces which tied for the team highest. Defensively she was fourth on the team in blocks with 25 and third on the team in digs with 129.
Portland's 10-2 record during September was a part of the 11-2 best start in program NCAA Division 1 history which began in August. This record also included a ten match win streak which had never before been accomplished during the Division 1 era.
