PORTLAND, Ore. --- Both the Portland men's and women's cross country teams qualified for the 2016 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships, the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country Committee announced Saturday afternoon.
This is the men's 17
th appearance at the NCAA Championships, with their most recent visit in 2014 where the Pilots finished third overall, earning their best finish in Portland program history.
This will be the first ever appearance for the Portland women at the Championships.
The Portland men claimed an automatic bid Friday afternoon at the NCAA West Regional, where they placed second to No. 4 Stanford. All seven Pilots placed in the top-30, with just a 28 second gap between their first and seventh runner. Nick Hauger led the Pilots with a 6
th place finish.
Lauren LaRocco placed 4
th overall leading the Pilots to a fifth place team finish. Their continuous success this season has helped the No. 10 women earn a historic at-large bid to nationals.
Indiana State University will host the championships, Saturday, November 19, at LaVern Gibson Championship Course in Terre Haute, Indiana. The women's race will begin at 8 a.m. (PT), followed by the men's race at approximately 12 p.m. (PT). A live webcast of the championships will be broadcast from 8 a.m. (PT) until the conclusion of the awards ceremony, Saturday, November 19, on NCAA.com. A watch party will be held for fans in the Chiles Center in the Hall of Fame Room.
