PORTLAND, Ore. – Freshman Lourdes Ramalle and junior Radina Dimitrova each earned singles wins for Portland, but the upstart Washington State Cougars pulled out a 5-2 win on Monday afternoon at the Louisiana Pacific Tennis Center. Washington State improves to 16-1 overall, while the Pilots fall to 3-7 this spring.

The Cougars, coming off a 4-3 win at No. 21 Oregon on Sunday, took the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.

The Pilots responded during the first wave of singles play. Ramalle earned her fourth consecutive dual singles win with a 7-6, 6-3 victory over Tiffany Mylonas at the No. 3 spot to tie the match.

Dimitrova gave Portland a 2-1 lead with a comeback win against Guzal Yusupova at No. 2 singles. After dropping the first set 6-4, Dimitrova won 6-3, 6-2 and improved to 6-2 this spring in dual singles matches.

No. 49-ranked Michaela Bayerlova tied the match with a hard-fought win against Pilot sophomore Jelena Lukic at the top of the lineup. Lukic took the first set in a tiebreaker, but Bayerlova pulled out the next two sets to tie the overall score.

The bottom of the lineup had first set battles across the board, but the Cougars won all three and carried the momentum into straight set wins at all three spots to conclude the scoring. Melisa Ates won at No. 6 for the 3-2 lead and then Barbora Michalkova clinched with a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 4.
