PORTLAND, Ore. --- Shayla Hoeft will join the Portland Pilots volleyball team this coming fall, announced head coach Jeff Baxter on Tuesday afternoon. Hoeft will be transferring to the Bluff from the University of Nevada, with two more years left of eligibility.
"Shayla is an exceptional person and student-athlete," said Baxter. "It was obvious from our first conversations with Shayla that she would be a perfect fit for our program. Shayla is a gifted athlete and is fantastic at hitting behind the setter, which will be a huge asset to our team. We are excited about having her in our program these next two years and watching her grow as a volleyball player and a leader."
Hoeft broke the program hitting record at Nevada last season after hitting .846 against Fresno State, tallying 11 of her 13 attempts to mark the most efficient game in program history. She also averaged 3.11 kills per set in the season, a number that kept her in the top 10 in the conference almost all year. The Hawai'i native hit over .300 for most of the season, another top 10 number and finished the season with 75 total blocks, garnering her All-Mountain West honorable mention accolades.
