PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Pilots dropped another close women's tennis dual, falling 4-3 to the San Diego Toreros on Friday at the Louisiana Pacific Tennis Center. The Toreros improve to 7-6 overall and 2-1 in West Coast Conference play, while the Pilots fall to 4-9 and 0-2 in league matches.

A day after dropping a 4-3 heartbreaker to Arizona, Portland was again clipped late in a back-and-forth match.

San Diego opened the scoring with a hard-fought doubles point. Portland's No. 2 doubles team of junior Radina Dimitrova and freshman Raphaelle Leblanc defeated Kati Kukaras and Maria-Paula Torres by a 6-2 margin, but the Toreros won 6-4 at the No. 1 position and then pulled out a 7-5 comeback win at No. 3 doubles to secure the point.

Dimitrova and Lukic continued their top of the lineup dominance in singles play. Dimitrova defeated Daniela Morales 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 2 spot for her sixth consecutive dual victory. She improves to 9-2 overall in singles this spring.

Lukic pulled out another comeback three-set win by a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 margin against Nicole Anderson. Lukic has now won five of her last six singles matches and is 8-4 overall in dual matches at the top of the lineup. She also improved to 4-1 in three-setters this spring.

Torres evened the score for the Toreros with a 7-6, 6-4 win against Pilot freshman Lourdes Ramalle at No. 3 singles.

Leblanc put the Pilots back ahead with a 6-1, 6-3 victory against Kukaras at No. 4 singles, but the Toreros finished the match with wins at No. 5 and No. 6 by Gemma Garcia and Carolin Nonnemacher, respectively.

Portland will continue WCC play on the road next week. The Pilots will visit Santa Clara on Friday at noon and then take on San Francisco on Saturday at 3 p.m.
