SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- The Portland Pilots Varsity 8 concluded the San Diego Crew Classic today with a first place finish in the Varsity Cal Cup B Final in Mission Bay, San Diego.
 
"Overall the weekend went well and it's great to see the focus and enthusiasm grow," said head coach Pasha Spencer. "This is the first year we have recruits in our senior to our freshman class and it's incredible to see the rhythm of the team, the expectations, and the lessons being passed down. I am looking forward to our next two all-team trips."
 
With Miranda Reyes in the cox seat and Veronica Nicacio rowing stroke, Portland finished seven seconds in front of second place and WCC opponent Saint Mary's. British Columbia's boat finished third.
 
The Pilots will next be in action on March 31 at the Husky Open in Seattle, Wash.
