SEATTLE, WASH. --- The Portland Pilots women's rowing team sent all boats to compete at the Husky Open on Montlake Cut in Seattle, Wash., on Saturday morning. Five of the six Portland boats had strong performances to take first in their races.

"We had good performances across the board," said head coach Pasha Spencer. "The highlight of the day was the second varsity eight and varsity four earned medals in their events. It's a program first and definitely something to build upon next week."
 
Portland's varsity eight, second eight, varsity four A, and varsity four B each placed first in  their heats. The varsity eight edged out Puget Sound by two seconds and third place Seattle University by 20 seconds, while the second eight topped Western Washington by seven seconds. Miranda Reyes was in the cox seat for the varsity eight and Veronica Nicacio at stroke, and Emma Papenhausen and Lauren Formigli at coxswain and stoke for the second eight.
 
The Pilots Varsity four was exceptional in the first flight with Alyssa Soete and Courtney Schmidt at the cox seat and stroke respectively, crossing the finish line almost ten seconds before second place Washington State. The B boat then claimed first in the second flight by over 20 seconds. Alice Chang and Audrey Shellum-Gonzalez were at the coxswain position and stroke.
                                                                                               
The Pilots will be back in action at the Covered Bridge Regatta on April 7 at Dexter Lake, Ore.
