PORTLAND, Ore. --- The Portland Pilots rowing team launches their spring season this weekend when they travel to the Sacramento State Invite on Lake Natoma. The Pilots are sending five boats to the Sac State Invite, which begins at 8:15 a.m. on Saturday morning.

Portland's second eight is the first boat to hit the water, and the varsity eight follows at 8:35 a.m. The second eight is coxed by Emma Papenhausen and Catherine Pennie at the stroke, while the varsity eight has Miranda Reyes in the cox seat and will be stroked by Veronica Nicacio.

The novice eights, with Emma Wells as the coxswain and Brooklin Gomez at stroke, are scheduled for 8:50 a.m., and the Pilots' varsity and second fours conclude the day at 9:45 a.m. and 10:15 a.m., respectively.

Other crews racing include host Sacramento State, Saint Mary's, UC San Diego, and Humboldt State.

This is the first of six events scheduled this spring for the Pilots, who return to the water next weekend in a dual with Pacific Lutheran and Seattle U. The season culminates with the West Coast Conference Championships, which will take place on May 12 on Lake Natoma.
