PORTLAND, Ore. --- Liana Kaitu'u, a 6-foot forward out of Salt Lake City, Utah, has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the Portland Pilots women's basketball program as a freshman next year, announced head coach Cheryl Sorenson. Kaitu'u joins a class that already includes Haylee Andrews, a guard from Australia who signed with the Pilots in the fall.
"Liana is a dynamic addition to our Pilot Family," Sorenson said. "Her height and offensive ability will make her a mismatch either from the inside or on the perimeter. She is a very unselfish player who is willing to perform any role in order for her team to be the most successful. She is a competitor, a great teammate, and she will be a great fit for our family on The Bluff."
Kaitu'u starred at East High School, where she helped the Leopards win a Utah 5A State Championship. She led the team in scoring all four years en route to the 1,000-career point club, and she once poured in a career-best 32 points during a game. Kaitu'u earned all-state honors all four years, nabbing honorable mention as a freshman and sophomore and third-team accolades during her junior campaign, and she was named the State's 5A MVP as a senior in 2018. A three-time team MVP, Kaitu'u was named the league's MVP in 2018.
