SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga Bulldogs recorded a 4-0 victory against the Portland Pilots in the final match of the regular season for both teams on Saturday afternoon at the Stevens Center. Gonzaga clinched at least a tie for second place in the final West Coast Conference regular season standings with the win.

The doubles point came down to the wire as all three matches were competitive. Gonzaga (16-6, 7-2 WCC) clinched the point as Haruna Tsuruta and Alex Bourguignon won in a tiebreaker against Radina Dimitrova and Raphaelle Leblanc at the No. 2 spot.

Gonzaga also won at No. 1 doubles by a 6-3 margin, but Pilot freshmen Lourdes Ramalle and Laura Okazaki posted a 7-5 win at the No. 3 position against Nevada Apollo and Ashleigh Jacobs. The Portland duo completed the dual season with a 4-4 record in WCC matches.

The Bulldogs picked up straight set wins at the No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 positions to clinch the overall match.

Portland sophomore Jelena Lukic had match point at No. 1 singles against Sophie Whittle at the time of clinch. She was leading 6-3, 5-1 when the overall match was decided.

Freshman Raphaelle Leblanc had forced a third set at No. 4 singles versus Domonique Garley, while Dimitrova and Apollo were in a close match at No. 2 singles.

Portland concludes the season with a 5-15 overall record and 1-8 in WCC play. The Pilots did not feature a senior on the 2017-18 roster and had just one junior in Dimitrova. The future looks bright with all key players returning next season and the recent commitment of South Carolina transfer Nikilina Jovic to next year's team.
