PORTLAND, Ore. --- Portland's Cody Hawken was selected to the All-West Coast Conference First Team and Beau Brundage landed on the second team as four Pilots total where honored with postseason accolades, it was announced on Tuesday. Connor Knutson earned All-WCC Honorable Mention, while Eli Morse was voted to the conference's all-freshman team.
Â
The four Pilots earning All-WCC honors are the most for the program since 2013 when they placed five on the league's postseason teams.
Â
This is the first WCC honor for all four players, and Morse becomes the first Pilot to be selected to the conference all-freshman team since Billy Sahlinger in 2013.
Â
Hawken, a junior outfielder originally from Vancouver, Wash., had a career year, batting a team-best .340 during conference play. He also belted six home runs against league opponents, had seven doubles and a triple, drove in 20 RBI's, scored 18 runs, and claimed a slugging percentage of .619. Hawken hit a career-best .323 overall and led the Pilots with 10 homers and 36 RBI's.
Â
Brundage lands on the league's second team after leading the WCC in a handful of offensive categories all season long. The redshirt-sophomore outfielder from Buford, Ga., led the league in batting average (.378), hits (79) and hits per game (1.5), and he was second in on-base percentage (.452) and triples (4). He had a career-long 18 game hitting streak, and he was nearly flawless in centerfield, posting a fielding percentage of .944, while collecting 147 putouts and seven assists. Brundage was also named the WCC's Player of the Week on March 12 after batting .563 with three doubles and seven RBI's during a four-game series split at home with UC Irvine.
Â
Knutson, a sophomore right-handed reliever, had a breakout year, finishing with eight saves overall and six stops during WCC play. He posted a sparkling 0.93 ERA against conference teams and he went 3-0, while holding opponents to a minuscule .181 batting average. A native of Sammamish, Wash., Knutson ended the season strong by not allowing an earned run during his final six appearances, which included 11 innings. During that stretch, he registered four saves and a win, scattered just five hits, and struck out 11. Knutson also nabbed WCC Pitcher of the Week honors after producing a win and two saves during the week of April 8-15.
Â
A right-handed pitcher and a Portland native, Morse was inserted into Portland's Friday starter role early in the season, and the freshman flourished. Against the WCC, he collected two wins, which included a complete-game win at LMU on April 20. Morse K'd a career-high 11 during the victory against the Lions, and he allowed just five hits en route to the program's first complete-game win since 2015. He also posted an ERA of 3.77 during nine conference starts, and he fanned 50 in 57.1 innings pitched.
Â
Portland is coming off its most successful season since 2012, producing the most overall wins (23) and conference victories (12) since that year.
