PORTLAND, Ore. --- Portland seniors Melanie Martinell and Lauren Reid and junior Acacia Welsford landed on the West Coast Conference Women's Rowing All-Academic Team, while five other Pilots rowers earned honorable mention. This is the second straight year on the conference all-academic team for Martinell, Reid and Welsford.
 
All three rowed on Portland's varsity eight boat, and Reid was named to the All-WCC Team at the league championships earlier this month. The crew finished fourth in their event at the WCC's, helping the Pilots to an overall fourth-place finish. Previously the varsity eight won the Cal Cup at the San Diego Crew Classic and placed on top of the field at the Husky Open.
 
Martinell is a computer science major with a GPA of 3.65, Reid has a 3.62 GPA in accounting, and Welsford boats a GPA of 3.94 and is majoring in history.
 
Earning WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention for the Pilots are senior Courtney Schmidt, juniors Lauren Jesse, Veronica Nicacio and Miranda Reyes, and sophomore Reeca Bardon.
 
At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to her team. 70 WCC student-athletes met the academic criteria for women's rowing this year.
