Scouting Florida
Florida is ranked in every national poll, including No. 16 in the latest NSCAA rankings. The Gators’ highest ranking is No. 14 (Top Drawer Soccer). The team is coming off a 2-0 win vs then-No. 18 Illinois on Friday led by goals from freshmen Sarah Chapman and Tahnai Annis. Chapman’s performance Friday placed her on the Soccer America National Team of the Week and brought her the Southeastern Conference Freshman Player of the Week honor. The win was UF’s second consecutive versus a top-20 opponent, as UF also posted a 1-0 win at then-No. 4 Florida State on Sept. 7. The Gators are midway through a stretch of four consecutive ranked opponents as they will face No. 25 Kansas (Sept. 21) after visiting Portland. The Gators opened the season by tying Colorado (currently No. 21) on the road (1-1), while their lone blemish was a 1-0 loss to Central Florida.
Annis leads the Gators in scoring with four goals, while the sophomore goalkeeping tandem of Meghan Berlingo and Katie Fraine post a combined 0.64 GAA.
The preseason favorite to repeat as Southeastern Conference champions, three players were named to the Preseason All-SEC Team: Ameera Abdullah, Ashlee Elliott and Lauren Hyde. The Gators have won eight SEC titles in the program’s 13-year history, including the last two, under head coach Becky Burleigh. Florida returns five starters from a 2007 squad that made the NCAA third round, including Abdullah as its top returning scorer (4g, 5a). Hyde earned NSCAA All-America third team honors in 2007.
UP-Florida Series
The teams played to a 1-1 draw to open the 2006 season in Gainesville, Fla. in the first and only meeting between the programs. Megan Rapinoe tallied Portland’s goal, while a late regulation equalizer from UF sent the match to OT.

Enyeart Joins Exclusive Club
Junior striker Michelle Enyeart continues to climb the UP career scoring charts. She is ninth in career points (91), eighth in goals (33) and seventh in game-winners (14). With two more assists, Enyeart will also crack that top 10 list. Her assist on Sept. 14 vs. San Diego State also made her just the seventh player in school history to record career totals of at least 30 goals and 25 assists.
30-Goal, 25-Assist Club
Christine Sinclair (110g, 32a)
Tiffeny Milbrett (103g, 40a)

Reed Running Hot
Sophomore defender Elli Reed was a unanimous choice for national team of the week honors after her four goal performance last weekend. Top Drawer Soccer, Soccer America and Soccer Buzz all recognized her. It marked the second consecutive week that Soccer Buzz placed Reed on its Elite Team of the Week. In her last four matches, Reed has four goals and four assists out of her left back position.
Hat Trick Fever
Danielle Foxhoven and Elli Reed recorded back-to-back hat tricks in wins over Colgate and Northern Arizona. It marks just the second time in the last three years that a Pilot tandem has recorded at least three goals in consecutive games. Natalie Budge and Megan Rapinoe accomplished the same thing during the 2006 season in wins over Rhode Island (8-0) and Baylor (5-0).
Nike Invite Honors
Reed was named the Nike Portland Invitational Most Outstanding Offensive Player, while backline mate Korie Nicholson earned Most Outstanding Defensive Player honors. The Pilots took the team title based on goal differential over Washington. Portland has now won nine of the 15 invitationals it has hosted since 1992.
Shutout Streak
With Sunday’s 3-0 win over San Diego State, Portland extended its shutout streak to five matches. Portland allowed just four shots (none on goal) in the two games last weekend. The school record for consecutive shutouts was set last season when the Pilots blanked nine straight opponents.
Offensive Outburst
In addition to the tight defense, the Pilots have had little trouble finding the back of the net this season. Portland has outscored the last five opponents by a 25-0 margin and is averaging 4.0 goals per game this season.
Pilots and Ronald McDonald House Ask for your Support
The Portland Pilots women’s soccer team has had a long-standing relationship with the Ronald McDonald House. It’s a tradition that is passed down each year from the upperclassmen to the freshmen. This year, the team decided it wanted to do even more and they’re asking for your help. The Pilots have once again partnered with the Ronald McDonald House in efforts to adopt a room at the Emmanuel Hospital location. By adopting a room, the team would furnish and decorate a Pilot Women’s Soccer themed room. With the help of UP soccer fans, the Pilots are hoping to raise $6,000. Selected home games will provide fans the opportunity to go down to the Merlo Field pitch and take a shot on goal for $1. There will also be a special auction at the regular season home finale on November 2 against Santa Clara. Donations will also be accepted at the fan information booth near the main entrance at Merlo Field during games or by contacting Beth Connell in the UP Athletic Department (503) 943-7245 or connell@up.edu.
