MALIBU, Calif. --- Michelle Enyeart, Charney Burk and Halley Kreminski scored two goals each as the No. 2 Portland Pilots defeated the Pepperdine Waves 6-0 at Tari Frahm Rokus Field Friday afternoon. The six-goal margin was the largest victory ever by Portland over Pepperdine.
The Pilots (13-1-0, 2-0-0 West Coast Conference) extend their winning streak to six games and have outscored opponents 29-1 over that span. It marks the fourth time in the last six games that Portland has scored six or more goals.
“This was the best performance we have ever had at Pepperdine,” Portland head coach Garrett Smith said. “It was nice to see us play well against a quality opponent on the road. It was another good opportunity to give some bench players quality minutes and I thought they played great.”
Enyeart scored Portland’s first two goals, both in the first half. In the 17th minute, she was on the finishing end of a sequence with Keelin Winters and Danielle Foxhoven. In the 40th minute, she ran onto a pass from Sophie Schmidt and made it 2-0 at the half.
Kreminski came off the bench and scored two goals for the second consecutive game. Her first strike on Friday was also assisted by Foxhoven, who extended her points streak to four games. Burk tallied her two goals within five minutes of each other late in regulation. The first came off a corner kick in the 74th minute and then she made it 5-0 after running through the defense and finishing to the lower right in the 79th minute.
Kreminski capped the scoring in the 83rd minute, finishing a cross from freshman Taylor Brooke.
Portland had a 15-6 edge on shots and 10-1 margin on corner kicks for the match. Goalkeeper Kelsey Davis made three saves to record her sixth shutout of the season.
“We showed good patience offensively today,” Smith added. “We were not trying to create something that wasn’t there and every shot looked like it had a chance to go in.”
Pepperdine (7-5-1, 0-1-1) goalkeeper Roxanne Barker had three saves, including one on a penalty kick early in the action.
The Pilots will continue WCC play at Loyola Marymount on Sunday at noon. The Lions (9-3-2, 1-0-1) defeated Gonzaga on Friday by a 2-1 margin.
