LOS ANGELES, Calif. --- Michelle Enyeart scored a goal and handed out three assists to help the No. 2 Portland Pilots blank the Loyola Marymount Lions 4-0 in a West Coast Conference women’s soccer game on Sunday afternoon at Sullivan Field. The Pilots (14-1-0, 3-0-0 WCC) pick up their third straight conference shutout and extend their winning streak to seven games.
UP has outscored its three league opponents 17-0.
“We’re rolling right now and we’re playing really well,” said head coach Garrett Smith. “It’s great when you can score as many goals as we did on the road. Today was just another great performance, our energy was good and the whole team played well.”
Enyeart began the scoring on Sunday with a goal in the 26th minute. After making a run down the right sideline to beat four LMU players, Enyeart made a move towards the middle of the field before burying a shot into the lower left corner of the net. The goal went unassisted and is the 11th of the season for the senior.
Enyeart then assisted on a Kendra Chandhoke goal as Portland took a 2-0 lead into the halftime locker room. Enyeart found Chandhoke just inside the top of the box, where the junior midfielder took a touch before crushing a left-footed shot inside the near post. It’s Chandhoke’s fifth goal of the fall.
The second half had barely begun when Portland made it a 3-0 game. This time is was Sophie Schmidt who took advantage of an Enyeart feed. 45 seconds into the second stanza, Schmidt unleashed a shot from 20 yards out that found the upper right corner of the net. Enyeart began the play with one of her patented runs down the sideline. She took on a slew of Lions before feeding Schmidt with a slow roller near the top of the box.
Keelin Winters then capped the scoring on a corner kick from Enyeart. Winters came flying into the area to finish on a volley from the middle of the 18-yard box, giving the Pilots a comfortable 4-0 lead.
The Pilots held a sizable 15-2 advantage in shots and a 9-3 edge in corner kicks.
The loss ends LMU’s unbeaten streak at seven games and drops its record to 9-4-2 overall and 1-1-1 in the WCC. Goalkeeper Allyssa Clark made three saves for the Lions
Kelsey Davis went the distance in goal for Portland to pick up her seventh shutout this year. It’s Portland’s 10th shutout overall.
The Pilots next return home for a pair of league games next weekend at Merlo Field. On Friday night, Portland is set to host the Saint Mary’s Gaels at 7:00 p.m. The San Francisco Dons then visit for a game at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday.
