PORTLAND, Ore. --- The Portland Pilots will go after their third straight win as they welcome the Portland State Vikings to the Chiles Center for a non-conference women’s basketball game at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday night. The Pilots, who sit at 2-2 on the season, are coming off a 98-63 win over Sacramento State at home on Sunday.
Senior guard Laiken Dollente led five Portland players in double figures against the Hornets as the Pilots cruised to the 35-point win. Portland scored 55 second-half points and racked up 33 points off of 23 Sacramento State turnovers.
Dollente finished 7-for-15 from the field and added six assists and four steals. Sophomore guard ReZina TecleMariam doubled her previous career high by finishing with 18 points on just eight shot attempts. Sophomore wing Natalie Day reached double digits for the second consecutive game with 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Junior post Lauren Angel and junior guard Tara Cronin added 14 and 12 points, respectively.
Dollente is one of four players averaging double figures in scoring this season. The Yakima, Wash., native is averaging 14.0 points per game, which ranks sixth in the West Coast Conference. Day (13.3 ppg), Angel (12.0 ppg) and sophomore forward Alexis Gannis (10.8 ppg) are also scoring in double figures for Portland, which is averaging 73.0 points per contest.
Gannis is nearly averaging a double-double with a mark of 9.5 rebounds per game, coming in at No. 3 in the WCC. As a team, the Pilots (41.8 rpg) are outrebounding their opponents by nearly eight rebounds per game.
Portland leads the all-time series against Portland State 23-22, but the Vikings have won four of the last five meetings. Last season, the Vikings knocked the Pilots out of the post-season WNIT with a 57-51 win at the Stott Center in a First Round game.
Portland State, which is coming off a 92-80 loss at Boise State, is 2-1 this season.
