2009 NABC All-District Coaches
KANSAS CITY, Mo. --- University of Portland men’s basketball head coach Eric Reveno was selected by his peers as the District 9 Coach of the Year, the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced on Tuesday. Reveno led the Pilots to the program’s second most wins at the Division I level and first postseason appearance since 1996.
In his third year on The Bluff, Reveno guided Portland to a 19-13 overall record, including a 9-5 mark and third place finish in the West Coast Conference. He was already named the WCC Coach of the Year, becoming just the second coach in Portland history to earn that honor (Jack Avina, ’78). He is the first Pilot men’s basketball coach to ever earn the district honor.
Portland was one of just 11 teams in the country to improve its win-loss record by double digits. The Pilots finished the 2008 season 9-22 overall and returned a majority of that squad to post a 19-win season in 2009 despite not having a senior on the roster. Portland earned an invitation to the inaugural CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT), just the third postseason invitation for the Pilots in its 51 years as a Division I institution.
The NABC realigned its district representation prior to the 2008-09 season. District 9 now consists of all member institutions of the West Coast Conference and the Big West Conference. Below is a list of all 24 NABC Division I All-District Coaches.
