About Loyola Marymount
The Lions (14-13, 5-6 WCC) carry momentum into Saturday night’s game after a thrilling 74-66 upset of No. 9 Gonzaga Thursday night. Freshman Ashley Hamilton scored 17 points and sophomore Drew Viney added 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead LMU to their first win over a ranked opponent in 20 years. Four Lions reached double figures in the win, as Davis came off the bench to add 12 points and four assists. LMU lost freshmen big men Edgar Garibay and Quincy Lawson to season ending injuries earlier this year. LMU has impressive road wins at Notre Dame (87-85) and at USC (67-59) already this season. Head coach Max Good is in his second season at the helm of LMU, taking over midseason last year Bill Bayno. Good has one of the youngest teams in the country and regularly starts four underclassmen. Viney leads the way at 16.8 ppg, while junior PG Vernon Teal averages 14.6 ppg and a WCC-high 6.0 assists per game. Dubois (12.8), Kevin Young (11.0) and Davis (10.5) are also in double figures. UP defeated the Lions 79-39 earlier this year in Portland, althought DuBois did not play. The Pilots have won four straight against the Lions, but LMU leads the all-time series 45-39.
