About San Francisco
The Dons (12-15, 7-5 WCC) sit alone in fourth place in the WCC standings entering the final weekend of the regular season. San Francisco pulled out a tough overtime road win at Santa Clara on Saturday, 71-68. Senior F Dior Lowhorn scored a game-high 28 points and sophomore F Angelo Caloiaro added 20. USF made 12-of-19 three-pointers for the game, including 4-of-5 by Blake Wallace off the bench. Lowhorn has led the WCC in scoring each of the last two seasons and is averaging a team-high 18.9 points this year. Sophomore G Kwame Vaughn is the only other USF player averaging double figures (12.4). The Dons have won five of their last six games, beginning with an 81-77 overtime win over then-No. 9 Gonzaga. Three of their wins during the run have come in overtime. Second-year head coach Rex Walters returns four starters and six lettermen from last year’s 11-19 squad that finished seventh in the WCC (3-11). USF leads the all-time series with Portland by a 45-24 margin, but the Pilots have won three straight including a 74-58 win at War Memorial Gymnasium on Jan. 28 of this year. Prior to those wins, the Dons had won 10 in a row and 14-of-the-last-15 in the series.
