PORTLAND, Ore. --- Former Portland men’s basketball standouts T.J. Campbell and Darren Cooper were both selected in the NBA Development Draft, which was held on Thursday.
Campbell, a 5-9 guard who was taken by the Canton Charge with the second pick of the fourth round, played professionally in Australia last season. He played two years with the Pilots (2008-10) after transferring from Glendale CC. Campbell is the UP career leader in three-point percentage (.478) and free throw percentage (.879). He ranks eighth all-time in career three-pointers made (139) and assists (331).
Cooper, a graduate of Benson High School who completed his Pilots career in 2007, was taken by the Maine Red Claws in the fifth round. A 6-3 guard, played the last two seasons with the D-League's Dakota Wizards. At UP, Cooper scored 1,020 career points, while his 140 career three-pointers rank sixth all-time.
