Game Information
The University of Portland Pilots (20-11, 7-7 WCC) will compete in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT) for the third consecutive season and open the event on the road against the University of Hawaii Rainbow Warriors (18-12, 8-8 WAC). Tip-off is scheduled for Tuesday, March 15 at 10 p.m. (Pacific) at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Tournament Tidbits
The CIT is in its third season and expanded to a 24-team field this year. All games are played at on-campus sites and after the initial 12 first round games, four teams will receive second round byes, while the remaining eight teams will play on March 18-19. Complete second round pairings will be announced on Wednesday night. The quarterfinals are March 21-22, semifinals on March 25 and championship game will be televised live on Fox College Sports on March 30. All games will have a free online video stream courtesy of Fox College Sports Broadband, while all Portland games will be on the radio on 800 AM (KPDQ) with a 30-minute pregame show.
Portland Briefly...
• The Pilots are making their third consecutive appearance in the CIT and looking for their first postseason win as a Division I institution.
• Portland lost to Loyola Marymount in the first round of the WCC Tournament on March 4 at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas by a 72-68 margin. Senior G Jared Stohl led the way with 23 points.
• Freshman PG Tim Douglas missed the last two games with a foot injury and will not be available on Tuesday.
• Senior F Luke Sikma and junior G Nemanja Mitrovic were named to the All-WCC First Team, while Stohl was an honorable mention pick for the third straight season.
• Sikma is the school’s top all-time rebounder (977) and recorded his 1,000th career point on Feb. 17 against San Francisco.
• Sikma also leads the WCC in both double-doubles (14) and rebounds (10.5) and ranks tied for 12th nationally in rebounds per game.
• The Pilots are No. 2 nationally in team 3-point percentage (.417).
• Mitrovic is No. 5 in the nation in three-point percentage (.467) and Stohl is No. 17 (.431).
• Mitrovic (91) and Stohl (87) have combined to make 178 three-pointers which is the second most of any teammate duo in the nation. BYU’s Jimmer Fredette and Jackson Emery are first with 198.
• Senior C Kramer Knutson is Portland’s all-time leader in games started (117).
• The Pilots have secured their second consecutive 20-win season for the first time in program history since joining Division I (1958-59).
• The 41 wins over the last two seasons are the most in back-to-back seasons in Portland history.
• Portland’s 60 wins over the last three years are the most of any three-year stretch since the Pilots joined Division I for the 1958-59 season.
• Head coach Eric Reveno has led the Pilots to three consecutive postseason appearances (CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament) for the first time in program history.
UP Postseason History
• Portland is making its fifth postseason appearance as a Division I institution and third straight in the CIT.
• The Pilots also competed in the 1959 NCAA Tournament (L, 56-57 vs. Depaul) and 1996 NCAA Tournament (L, 58-92, Villanova).
• UP is 0-4 all-time in postseason tournament games, losing in the first round of the CIT last year at Northern Colorado (81-73) and in 2009 at Pacific (82-76).
• Portland competed in four NAIA Tournament’s prior to joining NCAA Division I in 1958-59. The last Pilot postseason win came in the 1957 NAIA Tournament first round against Austin Peay (W, 77-65).
• The Pilots also made four straight NAIB Tournament appearances from 1949-52.
About Hawaii
• The Rainbow Warriors (18-12, 8-8 WAC) return to the postseason for the first time in seven years, having last advanced to the quarterfinals of NIT during the 2003-04 season.
• The Rainbows suffered a heartbreaking 75-74 loss to San Jose State in the Western Athletic Conference first round on March 9 at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.
• Hawaii is led by sharp shooter Zane Johnson (15.8 ppg, 97 three-pointers) and senior forward Bill Amis (15.5 ppg, 7.4 rpg).
• Head coach Gib Arnold is in his first season at Hawaii and led the Rainbows to an eight-win improvement and a fifth-place finish in the WAC.
• The Pilots and Rainbows have faced many common opponents this season with Portland posting a 5-0 record compared to Hawaii’s 4-4 record.
• Hawaii was a tough out at home, finishing with a 13-4 mark this year at the Stan Sheriff Center.
• UH leads the all-time series with Portland by an 11-8 margin, including a 9-4 mark in Honolulu.
Three Pilots Earn All-WCC Honors
Senior F Luke Sikma and junior G Nemanja Mitrovic were named to the All-West Coast Conference first team, while senior G Jared Stohl earned honorable mention honors. Sikma was an honorable mention selection as a junior, while Stohl picks up his third straight honorable mention award. Mitrovic was recognized for the first time as he moved into the starting rotation this season.
Pilots Secure Second Straight 20-Win Season
Portland earned its second consecutive 20-win season for the first time in program history at the Division I level (1958-59). The Pilots won 21 games last year to tie the school Division I single-season record (1994-95).
Pilots No. 2 Nationally in Three-Point Percentage
Portland is second nationally in team three-point percentage (.417) and trails only Northern Arizona (.425). Last year Portland finished fifth nationally as a team in three-point percentage (.407), while the Pilots finished second nationally in 2008-09 (.418).
Two-Year Run Best in UP History
The Pilots have collected the most wins in back-to-back seasons since joining Division I after the victory over San Diego on Feb. 26. The 41 wins eclipse the previous mark of 40, initially set from 1994-96 and then matched from 2008-10.

Sikma Joins 1,000-Point Club
Senior F Luke Sikma became the 34th player in school history to join the 1,000-point club after scoring six points against San Francisco on Feb. 17. He entered the game with 997 points and now joins fellow senior Jared Stohl in the exclusive club. The Bellevue, Wash. native enters Friday’s game tied for 21st in UP history with 1,042 points, one shy of cracking the Top 20.
Sikma Breaks UP Career Rebounding Record
Luke Sikma corralled seven second half rebounds against Pepperdine on Feb. 10 to pass Rick Raivio (910, 1976-80) as the Portland all-time leader in career rebounds. Sikma now has 977 for his career. He ranks in the school’s top 10 in blocked shots (2nd, 88), field goal percentage (6th, .537) and steals (t-9th, 120). The Bellevue, Wash. native is also in the Top 20 in career assists (15th, 251).
Mitrovic No. 5 Nationally in 3-Point Percentage
Junior G Nemanja Mitrovic is currently No. 5 in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage according to NCAA statistics (minimum of 2.5 made per game). Mitrovic is shooting .467 from beyond the arc and is looking to follow teammate Jared Stohl as the national leader as Stohl led the country last year by finishing at .478. Stohl is currently 17th this season at .431.
Knutson Sets Career Starts Record
Senior C Kramer Knutson has started a school record 117 career games for the Pilots. He broke the previous record of 112 (Dionn Holton, 1995-98) on Feb. 5 at Seattle. A four-year starter for Portland, the Mesa, Ariz. native also ranks fourth in Pilot history in career field goal percentage (.549) and fifth in blocked shots (76).
Stohl/Mitrovic No. 2 Three-Point Combo in the Nation
Jared Stohl and Nemanja Mitrovic have combined to make the most three-pointers (178) of any duo in the nation, slightly ahead of BYU’s Jimmer Fredette and Jackson Emery (198). Mitrovic is tied for 19th individually in three-pointers made (91), while Stohl (87) is tied for 30th. Already the Portland leader in career three-pointers made (332), Stohl moved into second place in the WCC record books after drilling five treys against Utah on Dec. 31. The WCC record of 363 is held by Jeff Fryer of LMU (1987-90). Stohl is also the only player in league history to rank in the top 10 in three-pointers made and career three-point percentage (.447, 10th).
Stohl Makes 20 Consecutive Free Throws... Twice
Jared Stohl had a string of 24 consecutive free throws broken on Feb. 12 at LMU. It was the second streak this season of 20 or more free throws made as he opened the season by making 22 straight. Stohl is No. 2 in UP history in career free throw percentage (.875).
Sikma 12th Nationally in Rebounds
Senior F Luke Sikma is leading the WCC and is tied for 12th nationally in rebounding average (10.5). Sikma has corralled double-digit rebounds in 18 games and has 14 double-doubles this season to lead the WCC. He matched his career-high with 19 rebounds versus Florida Atlantic on Nov. 14 and grabbed 18 at Idaho on Nov. 20.
Chiles Center Dominance
The Chiles Center has become quite comfortable for the Pilots over the last three seasons as Portland has rattled off a 38-6 home record and 19 consecutive wins prior to the loss to Gonzaga on Feb. 3. Signature home wins have come against Washington, Oregon, Nevada and Saint Mary’s three times. Portland finished the 2010-11 regular season with a 13-2 record at the Chiles Center for the second straight season.
Douglas Garners Second Player of the Week Honor
Freshman PG Tim Douglas and Saint Mary’s senior guard Mickey McConnell were named WCC Co-Players of the Week on Jan. 31. Douglas earned his second weekly award of the season to become just the fifth player in WCC history to receive multiple player of the week honors as a freshman. Douglas also earned weekly honors on Dec. 20 after scoring a career-high 27 points against Portland State. The Cerritos, Calif. native joins some select company by earning multiple honors as a true freshman. The only other players in WCC history to do so are Elias Harris (Gonzaga, 2010), Patrick Mills (Saint Mary’s, 2008), Darrell Tucker (San Francisco, 2000) and Greg Anthony (Portland, 1987). The league records for WCC player of the week awards date back to the 1981-82 season. Mills is the only freshman to earn the honor three times in one season.
Stohl Cracks UP Top 10 Scoring List
Senior G Jared Stohl became the 33rd player in school history to eclipse 1,000 career points after his 24-point effort on Sunday versus Florida Atlantic on Nov. 14. He then cracked the top 10 in UP scoring history after his 16-point performance against Gonzaga on Feb. 3. The Marysville, Wash. native is currently seventh in Portland history with 1,379 career points and is 61 points shy of tying Jim Winters for sixth all-time.
Stohl Obliterates UP Three-Point Record
With four three-pointers at Santa Clara on Jan. 30, 2010 Jared Stohl became the Portland career leader in three-pointers made. Stohl now has 328 career threes, 117 more than second place Casey Frandsen (211, 2000-04). Stohl also ranks second in career three-point percentage (.448) trailing only format teammate T.J. Campbell (.478). He led the WCC last season in three-pointers made per game (3.1) and his 98 three-pointers tied for second place in UP single-season history, eight shy of Peter McKelvey’s record from the 1991-92 season. Stohl also owns the UP single-game record by drilling 10 three-pointers on Dec. 22, 2009 against Idaho. He finished 10-for-15 from three-point range for 30 points. He set the previous record by going 9-for-13 against San Francisco on Jan. 15, 2009.
Staff Stability
Eric Reveno was named the 2009 WCC and District 9 Coach of the Year after leading UP to a 10-win improvement during the 2008-09 season. Now in his fifth year on The Bluff, Reveno credits the stability of his coaching staff as key to the program’s turnaround. All three assistants that joined Reveno when he was hired in April of 2006 have remained on the Portland bench ever since. No other team in the WCC has kept an entire staff together the last five years. Reveno is the third longest tenured WCC coach behind Gonzaga’s Mark Few (12) and Saint Mary’s Randy Bennett (10).
Three Recruits Inked During Early Signing Period
Portland signed Kevin Bailey (Clovis, Calif./East Clovis HS), Dorian Cason (Fontana, Calif./Summit HS) and David Carr (Portland, Ore./Central Catholic HS) to National Letters of Intent during the early signing period, head coach Eric Reveno announced. Bailey is an athletic and skilled 6-5 wing who is rated a top 150 national recruit according to Rivals.com and is the No. 11 prospect in the state of California. Cason is a long and mobile 6-7 power forward, also rated as a top 25 California prospect. Carr is a sharpshooting 6-2 guard that also led his high school team in rebounding and assists last season.
