Women's Hoops Blog: Entry #1
Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011
Hi Pilot Fans,
“G” here, and I’m excited to inform you all that the Women’s Hoop Blog is back in action! This year I’ve decided to recruit a few extra bloggers to give me a hand. I thought it would be fun for our fans to have multiple perspectives (myself, coaches, players, etc.) as to what’s happening on the team.
In fact there are many new faces among the UP Women’s Basketball Program. We welcomed 2 new assistant coaches, 4 freshmen, 1 transfer, 1 strength and conditioning coach, and 1 manager to the team this year – the rookies are taking over! :)
For this reason I think dividing the blogging duties among the team is a good idea because it will give you an opportunity to hear from the rookies first-hand and learn a little bit about each of them. We are very happy they are here. They are a tremendous addition to our Pilot family!
This year has gotten off to a strong and promising start. The girls didn’t waste any time preparing for the upcoming season upon arriving on The Bluff at the end of August. Earlier in the summer they established a great team atmosphere and have continued to build on that foundation. They put hard work in both on the court and in the weight room.
As I have already mentioned, there is a great team atmosphere, which I believe is a combination of the enthusiasm of our coaching staff, the leadership roles our seniors have fulfilled, and the eagerness of the new girls to contribute to the team.
Coach Kelly is encouraged by the transformation among the team:
“It is exciting seeing the seniors accept and fill their role as leaders on the team. The sophomores have also stepped up and the freshmen are ready to contribute. We all have high expectations for the upcoming year.”
As for what I have been up to, I had surgery this summer and consequently will not be playing this year. However, surgery couldn’t have gone better. I feel phenomenal and I am looking forward to contributing to the team off the court this season!
I’m glad we were finally able catch up. I hope you all are doing well and had a wonderful summer!
Official practices don’t start until October 3rd. Let the countdown begin: 14 days! Luckily practices will be held in the afternoon this year instead at the crack of dawn like last year.
As always, thank you for your support! Hope you are looking forward to the upcoming season as much as I am! :)
GOOO PILOTS!

PS - I have included pictures from our camps this summer. We hosted a couple youth camps as well as a couple high school camps/tournaments. We love our Pilot campers!
