Pilots Drop Road Game at Montana State
BOZEMAN, Mont. --- Sophomores Kevin Bailey and Thomas van der Mars scored 13 points each for the Portland Pilots in an 83-64 loss to the Montana State Bobcats at Worthington Arena Sunday afternoon. Portland shot 49 percent from the field for the game, but committed 19 turnovers and were outrebounded 34-24.
Freshman guard Bryce Pressley scored a season-high eight points off the bench for Portland (1-2), while junior guard Korey Theileke added a career-best six points.
Antonio Biglow scored a game-high 23 points to pace four Bobcats in double figures. Flavien Davis added 13 points and Calen Coleman chipped in 12 off the bench.
Montana State extended a 43-30 halftime lead to a 21-point advantage with 15:52 remaining. The Pilots would cut the deficit to 57-46 on a Bailey three-pointer with 11:48 remaining, but the Bobcats would push the margin back to as much as 23 points late to secure the win.
Portland made just 3-of-14 three-pointers and were 15-of-21 at the free throw line, while Montana State finished at 51 percent from the field, 8-for-16 from three-point range and 27-39 at the foul line.
The Bobcats (1-1) jumped out to a double-digit first half lead and closed the period with a 13-4 run.
Portland will return to the Chiles Center on Wednesday to host cross town rival Portland State. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and tickets are still available through all Ticketmaster outlets or through the Pilot Box Office at (503) 943-7525.
