ABOUT THE PILOTS
• Portland (2-3) trailed by three at the half before New Mexico pulled away for a 69-54 victory Sunday night at The Pit in Albuquerque. New Mexico moved into the top 25 this week in the AP (25) and Coaches (23) Polls.
• Junior G Korey Thieleke had his second straight career game, finishing with 11 points, six rebounds, four blocked shots and four steals.
• Portland leading scorers Ryan Nicholas and Kevin Bailey both fouled out as UNM made 29-of-38 free throws for the game.
• The Pilots drop to 0-3 in road games this year, but are a perfect 2-0 at the Chiles Center this season and 43-15 at home the last five seasons.
• Junior F Ryan Nicholas once again leads Portland. Nicholas averaged a team best 11.5 points and 7.6 rebounds last season. He is posting 13.0 points and 8.8 rebounds through the first five games.
• Sophomore G Kevin Bailey is the only other Pilot averaging double figures (11.8).
• Head coach Eric Reveno returns for his seventh year on The Bluff. Assistant coaches Eric Jackson and Mike Wolf also return for their seventh year, while Colin Pfaff returns for his first year as an assistant coach after two years as Director of Basketball Operations. Marshall Cho (Director of Basketball Operations) and Kevin Bruinsma (Director of Basketball Technology) are new to the staff this year.
• Portland is coming off a 7-24 season after winning 60 games from 2008-2011, a stretch that included back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time in school history.
• Portland returns three starters and 10 lettermen from last year’s team that finished eighth in the WCC with a 3-13 league record.
• PG Derrick Rodgers is the team’s lone senior.
• Four newcomers join the team: G Oskars Reinfelds, G Bryce Pressley, F Jake Ehlers, and G David Ahern. Ahern is expected to redshirt.
• The Pilots were picked to finish eighth in the nine-team West Coast Conference in the pre-season coaches poll.
• The Pilots were invited to the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT) for three consecutive seasons from 2008-2011.
• All 11 UP graduates in the last three years and have gone on to play pro ball.
• Portland announced the signing of PG Alec Wintering (Concord, N.C./United Faith Christian Academy) to a NLI on November 14.
ABOUT LEWIS & CLARK
• The Pioneers (3-0) are a member of the NCAA Division III Northwest Conference.
• Lewis & Clark has posted wins over UC Santa Cruz (99-68), Colorado College (81-53) and Concordia (Ore.) (77-61).
• The Pios are averaging 85.7 points per game and allowing just 60.7.
• Five different players are averaging double figures, led by Ross Erickson (17.3 ppg).
• L&C is shooting 44 percent from three-point range and making 11.3 threes per game.
• Dinari Foreman is in his second year as head coach of the Pios, after serving as an assistant to long-time head coach Bob Gaillard for the previous ten seasons.
• Foreman and the Pios finished last season with a 14-12 overall record.
• Portland leads the all-time series with L&C by an 18-1 margin, including a 76-64 victory last year at the Chiles Center.
THIELEKE TAKES OVER
• Junior G Korey Thieleke made has started the last two games for the Pilots and established career highs in nearly all statistical categories in both outings.
• The Bakersfield, Calif. native made the most of his first start of the season against Portland State on Nov. 21 by finishing with nine points, four assists, three rebounds, two blocked shots and two steals in 23 minutes of action.
• Thieleke was 4-of-5 from the field and made his only three-point attempt against PSU.
• He followed up with 11 points, six rebounds, three assists, four blocked shots and four steals in 37 minutes against New Mexico.
• One of the team’s best athletes, Thieleke has brought a lot of energy and caused havoc on the defensive end.
