McMINNVILLE, Ore. --- Freshman Katherine Maus won the Long Jump and Triple Jump competitions in her first career outing as the Portland Pilots women’s track and field team competed in the first outdoor meet of the season on Saturday at the Linfield Icebreaker.

“This is a strong first meet for Katherine,” Portland assistant coach Todd Wojchik said after the meet. “This is just the tip of the iceberg for what is to come.”
Williams enjoyed a strong solo performance as well, placing third in the 400m dash (1:00.10) and fifth in the 800m run (2:24.73).

SEATTLE, Wash. --- Alfred Kipchumba won the men’s 5000m run with a time of 14:17.58 while the Pilots women’s team continued its season-long assault on program records Saturday as the Pilots sent a total of nine athletes between the two programs to compete at the UW Final Qualifier.
Five of the seven Pilots racing in the 3000m run posted times that would have ranked in the top 10 in school history entering the weekend. Julia Fonk (9:51.84), Melissa Hastings (9:55.22) and Elizabeth Keaveny (10:09.79) went 1-2-3 in the first section of the event. Fonk and Hasting’s marks would have ranked eighth and tenth on the school record books.
In the second section of the race, however, Merel van Steenbergen posted a time of 9:38.73 for the third quickest mark in school history behind Nicole Karr (9:25.13 in 1995) and Ashlee Vincent (9:28.77 in 2005). Lyndy Davis (9:45.23) and Laura Hottenrott-Freitag (9:45.82) posted the newest ninth and tenth best marks, replacing themselves. Both times were personal bests as Davis’ previously owned a 9:48.03 time in 2010 and Hottenrott-Freitag ran a 9:52.91 in her first race this season.
