CORVALLIS, Ore.--- The men's and women's cross country teams placed first and second at the Beaver Classic in Corvallis Friday evening. Redshirt junior Stephen Kersh led the Pilot men and used a late kick to secure a fourth overall finish in 24:53 for the 8-kilometer course. The women were paced on their 6-kilometer course by freshman Lindsay Tompkins. She finished second overall in 22:08.

Kersh and teammate Timo Goehler ran most of the race in tandem and Goehler crossed the line in 25:01, eighth overall and the second Pilot. Following Goehler was redshirt freshman Alex Bowns (11
th, 25:14), redshirt freshman Griffin Hay (14
th, 25:21), and redshirt junior Connor Whan (20
th, 25:34) was the final scorer for the team. With a final team score of 34 points, the Pilots bested Southern Oregon University, currently ranked sixth in the nation for NIAA, by four points.

Also running for the Pilots were Will Baker-Robinson (21
st, 25:37), Ben Forsee (26
th, 25:53), Andy Holstrom (45
th, 26:39), and Nick Shindler (55
th, 27:12). Three unattached freshman ran in the Beaver Classic. Keegan Symmes placed 10
th in 25:13, Jeff Thies was 12
th in 25:18, and Joe-Joe Cortez-Adams was 24
th in 25:39.

The women had a team score of 50 points, second only to the 40 points put up by Northwest Christian University. Coming in after Tompkins was a tight pack of Pilots led by freshman Anna Farello (8
th, 22:23). After Farello, teammates Julia Gullikson (10
th, 22:26), Tori Zellerhoff (19
th, 22:48), and Sabrah de Voir (20
th, 22:49) came in quick succession to end the scoring for the Pilot women.

The winner of the women's race was Portland Pilot alum Kellie Houser. She flew around the course in a time of 21:57.
