TERRE HAUTE, Ind.--- In frigid temperatures and swirling winds, the Pilots tied a program best at the NCAA Championships with a seventh-place team finish.
The team finished with a score of 290 points. Iona was sixth with 281 and Oregon placed fifth with 272. WCC rival BYU snagged the final podium spot with 264 points. Colorado won the 2013 NCAA Championship team title with 148 points.
Redshirt junior Scott Fauble led the way for the Pilots and finished 13th overall. With that finish, he earned his third All-American certificate and second consecutive Cross Country All-American title after finishing 26th at last year's race. He traversed the muddy and sloppy 10k course in 30:21.
Charlie McDonald saved his best for last as he was the second Pilot to cross the finish line. In his final race as a Pilot, McDonald ran 30:59 and placed 60th overall.
Not far behind McDonald was Ryan Poland. The third Portland harrier was 66th and ran a time of 31:01. Next up for the team was David Perry. He finished 102nd in a time of 31:20. Capping off the scoring for the team was freshman Danny Martinez. He navigated the course in 31:25, good for a 116th place finish.
Again, the seventh-place team finish ties the best in program history. The last time it was accomplished was 2008, and before that in 2001.
