Pilots Open WCC Play after Visiting Eastern Washington
PORTLAND, Ore. --- The Portland Pilots men’s tennis team continues its busy week with a pair of matches in Washington, taking on the Eastern Washington Eagles and then the Gonzaga Bulldogs.
Portland’s (4-2) road trip begins in Cheney against the 2-4 Eagles, who are coming off a split weekend with a loss to Washington and a win at Seattle.
After facing the Eagles, Portland heads to Spokane to begin West Coast Conference play for a Saturday match against the Bulldogs.
Both of this weekend’s matches are scheduled for 10 a.m.
The Pilots are coming off a hard-fought match against the No. 12 Mississippi Rebels on Wednesday that saw senior Jackson Martin and junior Michel Hu Kwo knock off the 25th ranked doubles partners in the nation.
Playing from the second position, Martin and Hu Kwo held off William Kallbergg and Adrian Skogeng, 7-4, in the tiebreaking game.
In the singles play, Portland faced four top-100 players, forcing three tiebreakers and winning at least four games in each set, an impressive feat for a still-young roster.
