PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Pilots defeated the Idaho Vandals 5-2 Monday in a non-conference men's tennis dual match at the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center.

The Pilots earned the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Portland's top duo of Nikola Keremedchiev and Cade Fernando were 6-3 winners over Chetanna Amadike and Gabriel Moroder. Tom Garcia and Eli Noel then clinched with a 6-4 win versus Valentin Glasl and Eric William Wang.

Idaho evened the team score with a win at No. 3 singles, but the Pilots regained control with Keremedchiev beating Amadike 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 and Fernando claiming a 7-5, 6-3 win against Moroder at No. 2 singles.

Stefan Skobelev provided Portland the match-clinching point with a 6-3, 6-2 win against Wang at the No. 4 spot. Tannor Binder capped Portland's scoring with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles against Valentin Glasl.

"I didn't do a great job of looking ahead at the schedule a year ago when I scheduled this match," Portland head coach Aaron Gross said. "We like to play good teams at home so we definitely agreed to do this, but after a long weekend in Southern California, it felt like a pretty big adjustment against a very motivated Idaho team. I'm super proud of the guys that really stepped up today even though they were banged up, starting at the top with Nikola. Cade, Stefan, and Tannor also came off a long weekend and got the job done. Our freshman, Gian, is getting some valuable experience with some people missing from the lineup."
