Box Score (pdf)PORTLAND, Ore. --- Senior Cassandra Brown scored 19 points and senior Cassandra Thompson registered a double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds as the Portland Pilots pulled away from the Concordia Cavaliers to win 83-46 in an exhibition women's basketball game played on Tuesday night at the Chiles Center. The game was the second of two exhibition games for the Pilots, who next open the 2014-15 regular season at Oregon State on Friday.
The Pilots opened a big lead over the Cavaliers and never looked back en route to the win. Brown was feeling it from deep, shooting five of six from three-point range and six of 13 overall. She also hit both of her free throws.
Thompson's work on the glass helped the Pilots claim a sizable 59-34 advantage on the glass.
Senior guard Jasmine Wooton gave Portland its first double-digit lead of the game when her three-pointer made the score 17-7. Her three sparked a 17-0 run by the Pilots as Portland would stretch the lead to 50-13 with only a minute left in the first half.
The Pilots continued to knock down buckets after the break as the lead would swell to 64-16 four minutes into the second half. The lead was still 48 points moments later after sophomore Hannah Mattson drilled a three-pointer and Portland would rely heavily on its bench during the game's final 10 minutes.
Mattson finished with 13 points and eight rebounds, while Wooton added eight points. Freshman post Sara Zaragoza just missed a double-double, finishing with nine points and eight boards. Senior Kari Luttinen dished out a game-high six assists, and the Pilots had 22 assists on 30 field goals for the night.
The Pilots shot 13 of 24 from beyond the three-point arc and held the Cavaliers to 26.2 percent shooting overall. Lexi Campbell scored 14 points to lead Concordia.
Tip-off for the Pilots and Beavers in Corvallis on Friday is set for 4 p.m.
