ABOUT THE PILOTS• Portland routed Montana State by an 87-60 margin on Saturday to improve to 8-3 on the season.
• Junior G Bryce Pressley led four Pilots in double figures with 17 points, while sophomore PG Alec Wintering added 11 assists.
• The Pilots went down to the wire in two previous road games for a split last week. The Pilots defeated Sacramento State 80-75 last Sunday and then led a majority of the game before dropping an overtime heartbreaker at UNLV on Wednesday by a 75-73 margin. Portland was without leading scorer Kevin Bailey, who has missed the last three games with a foot injury.
• Senior C Thomas van der Mars scored his 1,000th career point late in the first half on his way to 20 points and eight rebounds against the Hornets.
• Senior G Bobby Sharp added 16 points, including four free throws in the final 10 seconds to secure the win.
• Senior F Volodymyr Gerun picked up his second double-double of the year with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while sophomore PG Alec Wintering added nine points, 12 assists and three key steals against Sacramento State
• UNLV stole one from Portland by making a layup at the regulation buzzer to force overtime, then another layup to win the game with 0.4 seconds left. The Pilots led by eight points with less than three minutes to go in regulation.
• Wintering was a force with 24 points and five assists in the loss, while senior F Riley Barker made the most of his first start this year with a season-high 14 points and seven rebounds.
• The Pilots rank 28th nationally in assists per game (16.3), 31st nationally in both rebounding margin (+8.1) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.37), and 41st in free throw percentage (.734).
• Portland returns four starters and seven of the top eight scorers from last year's team that finished 15-16 overall.
• Bailey, a four-year starter, averaged 16.5 points per game a year ago before missing the final seven games with a leg injury. He leads four Pilots averaging double figures this season at 13.1 points per game but has missed the last four games with a foot injury and is questionable on Monday.
• Van der Mars is also a four-year starter and he's the 37th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points. He was a Preseason All-WCC selection by the league's head coaches and Academic All-American last year.
• Wintering started the first 27 games of last season as a true freshman before a leg injury sidelined him the last four outings. He topped all WCC freshmen in assists, assist/turnover ratio, and steals and was top five among all players in the league in each category.
• Portland added five newcomers to the roster this season with four freshmen and a junior college transfer. Four of the newcomers have Pacific Northwest ties, while the fifth is 7-footer Philipp Hartwich (Cologne, Germany).
• Head Coach Eric Reveno returns for his ninth year on The Bluff. Assistant Coach Eric Jackson and Special Assistant to the Head Coach Mike Wolf also return for their ninth years, while Colin Pfaff is back for his third year as an assistant coach after two years as Director of Basketball Operations.
• Reveno added experience to his staff in the offseason with the addition of veteran NBA head coach Herb Brown and former Portland Trail Blazers video coordinator Tim Grass.
• Portland looks to return to the form it had from 2008-2011, a stretch that included back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time in school history and 60 wins over three seasons.
• The Pilots were invited to the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT) for three consecutive seasons from 2008-2011.

• Jason Luhnow leads four players averaging double figures at 13.7 points per game.
• Head coach Dinari Foreman is in his fourth season with the Pioneers.
• The Pilots and Pioneers met two seasons ago at the Chiles Center with Portland winning by a 78-73 margin.
