Men's Tennis Knocks off UNLV for Third Straight Win
EUGENE, Ore. --- The Portland men's tennis team picked up a quality 6-1 decision over the UNLV Rebels in a neutral site match Saturday afternoon at the Student Tennis Center. Portland improves to 3-2 with its third consecutive win of the spring dual season, while UNLV falls to 4-3 overall.
Portland picked up the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions for the early 1-0 lead.
The Pilots then took five of the six singles match, headlined by straight set wins from Michel Hu Kwo at No. 1, Reid deLaubenfels at No. 2, and Kent Andreason at No. 3.
"Today was a great test for us," Portland head coach Aaron Gross said. "UNLV is a very good team. We were very composed throughout the lineup. We worked through some intense spots in nearly every match. Kent Andreasen had one of his best days as a Pilot, winning handily in doubles and singles. Michel Hu Kwo and Reid deLaubenfels came up big for us, as well. Overall, a very solid total team effort. I'm proud of how we competed today."
Seniors Ratan Gill and Alex Ferrero earned three set victories at the No. 3 and No. 4 positions, respectively. Ferrero improved to 5-0 in singles play this spring.
The Pilots will next take the court against the Oregon Ducks on March 9 at the Lake Oswego Racquet Club.
