SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Portland men's tennis duo Nikola Keremedchiev and Cade Fernando have been named the West Coast Conference doubles team of the week, the league office announced on Tuesday. It marks the second consecutive week that the pair has earned the honor.
Portland's No. 1 doubles tandem ran their win streak to eight matches with a 2-0 weekend at the Golden State Invite. The tandem defeated Nevada's Rayen Hermassi and Nicolas Recoura 6-4 on Friday and then beat New Mexico State's Roko Stipetic and Tobias Wallin 7-5 on Saturday. They were leading host UC Davis 5-4 on Friday morning in a match that was abandoned after the Pilots clinched the doubles point.
Keremedchiev and Fernando improved their overall record to 15-3 this season and 8-2 in dual matches at the top of the lineup.
Portland (5-7) will return home and host the Montana Grizzlies (5-6) on Friday in the final non-conference match of the season. First serve is set to begin at 10 a.m. at the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center. Live coverage links are available at
