ABOUT THE PILOTS
• The Pilots have faced two top-five opponents this season, traveling to No. 2 Florida State on Aug. 22 and hosting then-No. 5 Stanford last Saturday.
• 4,847 fans attended Saturday's match vs. Stanford, and a record 2,503 students were in attendance; 2,503 students represents a remarkable 63% of the entire University of Portland student body.
• Portland is ranked 22nd in the NSCAA Poll, sits at No. 14 in the Top Drawer Soccer rankings and is No. 19 in the Soccer America poll.
• Sophomore forward Danica Evans has scored both Portland goals this season, while Parkes Kendrick, Rebekah Kurle, Ariel Viera and Kaycie Young each have an assist.
• The Pilots received three first-place votes and just missed being picked as the favorite to win the always challenging West Coast Conference.
• Portland, BYU and Santa Clara each received three first-place votes in this year's poll; BYU totaled 73 points to edge the Pilots (72) by just a single point, while third-place Santa Clara was three back of the Pilots with 69 points.
• The Pilots also placed a league-high three players on the All-WCC Preseason Team as sophomores Ellie Boon, Danica Evans and Allison Wetherington were each selected.
• Portland claimed the program's 13th WCC title last season after sharing the league crown with BYU and Santa Clara.
• The Pilots returned 12 letterwinners and seven starters from a team that reached the second round of the NCAA playoffs for the 14th straight year.
• Portland's roster features a heralded sophomore class that was ranked fifth in the nation entering UP as freshmen last fall; sophomore midfielder Allison Wetherington was named the 2013 WCC Freshman of the Year, while fellow sophomores Ellie Boon (All-WCC Honorable Mention), Danica Evans (All-WCC Honorable Mention) and Ariel Viera (WCC All-Freshman Team) also garnered all-league recognition.
• Evans is Portland's top returning goal scorer after registering five goals during her freshman campaign, and she also tied for the team-high with seven assists.
• The Pilots have led the nation in attendance for nine straight years; UP owns the NCAA record for attendance in a season when 47,082 fans attended Portland women's soccer games in 2008.
• The Pilots have advanced to at least the second round of the NCAA playoffs for 14 straight seasons and have reached the playoffs during 21 of the last 22 years.
• Portland won the NCAA National Championship in 2002 and in 2005.
• Reigning WCC Coach of the Year Garrett Smith has been named the league's top coach six times.
• Smith is in his 12th year at the helm of the Pilots and has compiled an overall career mark of 194-40-17 (.807) and a remarkable 65-9-7 (.846) record in the WCC.
