Box Score (pdf)DAVIS, Calif. --- Portland formed comebacks in each of the three sets, but the UC Davis Aggies held off the Pilots to win the match 3-0 at The Pavilion on the UC Davis campus. The Pilots (3-2) were led by senior outside hitter Emily Liger who earned her second double-double in a row with 17 kills and 12 digs.
The UC Davis (2-4) came out strong in the first set taking it with a score of 25-21. A kill by sophomore middle blocker Brittney Markwith to make the score 18-10 started a comeback for the Pilots, but the Aggies were able to hold on for the set win. Sophomore middle blocker/outside hitter Makayla Lindburg led the way for Portland with four kills on the set.
UC Davis outlasted Portland's comeback in the second set to win it 25-19. The Pilots were down 23-10 in the set until outscoring the Aggies nine points to two in the final 11 points of the set. Markwith had five kills during that rally and Liger added three of her own. Markwith had a team high 7 kills total during the set.
Portland and UC Davis battled it out, but the Aggies won the third set 25-22. A kill by Markwith tied the set 18-18 and it was point for point until UC Davis pulled away in the last few points to take the set. Liger led the Pilots with 9 kills during the third set.
The Pilots are next in action in Moscow, Idaho on Friday, Sept. 12 against Eastern Washington at 10 a.m.
