PORTLAND, Ore. --- Portland's Jasmine Wooton poured in 30 points, Cassandra Brown added 22 points and Cassandra Thompson registered a double-double as the Pilots cruised past the Loyola Marymount Lions 83-65 in a West Coast Conference women's basketball game on Thursday night at the Chiles Center. Wooton becomes the first Pilot to score 30 points this season.
Â
Wooton was also the last Portland (3-14, 1-5 WCC) player to reach the 30-point plateau when she dropped a career-best 36 points during a win at Pacific on Dec. 28, 2013. The senior point guard shot 8-for-13 overall against the Lions (2-15, 0-6 WCC) on Thursday night, was 2-for-2 on three-pointers and went 12-for-15 at the foul line.
Â
Brown extends her streak of scoring at least 20 points to four straight games and she's reached 20 points in five of six conference games. She's averaging a team-best 17.9 points per game overall this season and she's putting up 20.8 points against league opponents. She was a perfect 7-for-7 on free throws on Thursday and she drained three three's.
Â
Thompson secures her second double-double of the season with 11 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
Â
It was Kari Luttinen who was hot from the field early for the Pilots as she hit a pair of three-pointers during the game's opening minutes to help Portland claim an 18-8 lead. The Pilots' lead would grow to 13 points, with the help of a three from Thompson, before a scoring drought allowed LMU to pull within eight.
Â
But that's when Wooton took over and scored Portland's final nine points of the first half to let the Pilots take a 46-33 lead into the locker room at the break. The native of Northridge, Calif., scored 16 points during the game's first 20 minutes.
Â
Wooton then opened the second half with a steal near mid-court and a break-away lay-up before Thompson followed with a lay-up to give the Pilots their biggest lead to that point at 50-33.
Â
Moments later Brown hit a couple from deep, Wooton converted a tough lay-up while getting fouled and Thompson scored on a move down low to cap a 10-0 Portland run. The run would stretch to 15-2 when Wooton knocked down an angle three-pointer, handing the Pilots a 65-38 lead with 11:31 left to play.
Â
Kaylie Van Look then connected on a baseline jumper and Wooton hit a pair of free throws, and the Pilots were comfortably ahead by 29 points, courtesy a 19-4 outburst. LMU briefly pulled within 14 with 4:06 showing on the clock, but the Pilots re-grouped and quickly pushed the lead back to 20 points before claiming the win.
Â
Luttinen finished with 12 points and the Pilots shot 44.4 percent (24-for-54) on the night. Portland was also nine of 13 from three-point range and went 26-for-33 on free throws.
Â
Makenzie Cast had six three-pointers to lead the Lions with 20 points. LMU shot 34.4 percent (22-for-64) overall, went 10-for-32 from beyond the arc and was 11 of 17 at the foul line.
Â
Turnovers weren't much of a factor as both teams finished with 12 and Portland out-rebounded LMU 44-34.

The Pilots next welcome the Pepperdine Waves to the Chiles Center on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
