SEATTLE, Wash. – Portland won six of its 11 consolation singles matches on Sunday to conclude the USTA/ITA Northwest Regional Championships hosted by the University of Washington. Pilot junior Alex Wallace picked up a pair of straight set wins on Sunday.
Wallace won all three of his consolation matches on the weekend. Freshman Felix Fan won his lone match on Sunday and finished the weekend 3-1 in singles action with the lone loss a three-setter. Sophomore Goutham Sundaram also won both of his consolation matches, while freshman Carlos Donat finished with a 2-2 singles mark.
"Overall, I think that we got out of the weekend what we needed to," Portland head coach Aaron Gross said. "We got to play a lot of matches and learned a few hard lessons. I think there are moments that our doubles play looks more aggressive and innovative. Mike Pervolarakis played a very good match against a good player yesterday from Cal which was one of our singles highlights. Felix Fan had a couple of very nice wins against good solid players. I think everyone experienced some ups and some downs over the course of the weekend, but overall we come back to Portland a better team than when we left."
Portland will conclude its fall campaign next weekend at a tournament hosted by Gonzaga.
