SPOKANE, Wash. – Portland concluded its dominant run at the Bulldog Classic on Sunday by placing finalists in both singles draw as well as the doubles draw. All three title matches were unplayed as the Pilots took home co-championships in all three draws.

Sophomores Michail Pervolarakis and Mathieu Garcia each won their respective side of the bracket by pulling out three set victories in Sunday's semifinals. Pervolarakis held off Gonzaga's Hayden Smith, while Garcia defeated Robert Dula of Eastern Washington.

In the Red Singles Draw, the Pilots had three of the four semifinalists. Junior Alex Wallace won his third straight three-setter with a 6-4, 6-7, 6-2 victory over Idaho's Lucas Coutinho. The opposite side of the bracket featured Pilot sophomores Jamie Fisher and Goutham Sundaram, who did not play. Fisher defeated Gonzaga's Ronzai Saurombe in a consolation match instead.

Portland also cruised in doubles play as Pervolarakis and Felix Fan knocked off an Eastern Washington duo in the semifinals. Wallace and freshman Carlos Donat also won their semifinals meeting against a Montana pair to set up yet another all-Pilots final.

"The weekend went about as well as we could have hoped," Portland head coach Aaron Gross said. "We played a ton of matches and all of the teams that played in the tournament competed hard and provided some good tests. In some cases, guys that we may project as No. 4 or No. 5 had to step up and play some higher lineup guys on the other squads and did well.

"Today was great for a couple of reasons. Number one, we played pretty good doubles. I don't consider 'winning' meaning good, but we actually played well. Some of the things we have been working very hard on all fall came together. Number two, Mike Pervolarakis, Mathieu Garcia, and Alex Wallace all won close three set matches that could have gone either way at certain times of the matches. They all stayed true to keeping their composure and focusing on playing their best tennis, as opposed to putting too much focus on the outcome. I think that mentality gives our guys a chance of having some special days in the spring.

"Lastly, we truly have really good competition for spots in our lineup right now. Jamie Fisher stepped up big time this weekend. Goutham Sundaram has been solid all fall and did it again this weekend. Jared Madison, who was a huge part of our success last spring, is also finding his groove after being out most of the summer with an injury."
 
Portland finished the tournament with a combined 25-7 record in singles play and 11-4 mark in doubles action.

The Pilots will now prepare for the spring dual season which kicks off on Jan. 22 versus Portland State.

"Though we were very successful this weekend, I think we all know that there is still a lot to work on to get to where we want to be," Gross added. "But it's always nice to be giving quotes from the airport after things go well, and they did go very well this weekend."
