BOZEMAN, Mont. --- Three Portland Pilots newcomers combined for 10 three pointers on Friday but the Montana State Bobcats held off the Pilots for an 86-57 win at the Worthington Arena.
The youthful Pilots were 11-for-20 as a team from beyond the arc but now sit at 1-2 on the year while Montana State improves to 3-0.
Freshman Daria Slaga hit all three of her three point attempts to lead the Pilots in the second half and finished with a team high 15 points. Junior transfer Corissa Turley added four threes for the Pilots while Holly Blades also contributed three.
Montana State answered the Pilots' range with a strong paint game by racking up 42 points in the paint. The Bobcats received a particularly strong effort from Jasmine Hommes, who garnered 21 points to lead all players.
The teams traded buckets for most of the first period with a Turley three knotting the game at 14. Montana State kept hitting shots in the second period and held the Pilots off the board with a stingy defense. The dual effort allowed Montana State to jump out to a 20 point lead that proved too much for the Pilots to overcome.
Portland heads over to Missoula for a noon affair against the Montana Lady Griz this Sunday.
