LOS ANGELES, Calif. --- The Portland Pilots fell to the Loyola Marymount Lions 3-0 on Thursday night at the Gersten Pavilion. Emily Liger led the way offensively for the Pilots with 15 kills.

LMU (18-7, 9-4 WCC) beat the traveling Portland (13-11, 3-9 WCC) with set scores of 25-15, 30-28, and 25-19.

The two sides were tied at three before the Lions gained momentum and went on an eight point run to take the lead 11-3. Portland cut into the LMU lead with a 6-1 run, but the Lions held off the Pilots to win the first set. Liger led the way for the visiting squad with three kills during the set.

Portland used a three point run to cut the Lion lead to three at 14-11. A service ace by Djurdjina Milovic then cut the lead to two at 15-13 and than an ensuing LMU error put the Pilots within one. Sarah Savoca notched her fourth kill of the match to give Portland the lead for the first time of the set 21-20. The Pilots then went on to earn the first set point of the set, but the Lions held off forcing extra points. The two sides battled evenly until the Lions were able to earn two points in a row to win the second 30-28.Liger led Portland again with six kills during the set.

The Pilots gained control of the third set earning a three point lead at 12-9. LMU worked back into the set and the two sides battled point-for-point through the middle of the set. The Lions won seven of the last eight points of the set to win the match.

The Pilots will next travel up the 101 to Malibu to face the Pepperdine Waves at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Â
