THIS WEEK
• Portland returns to the Chiles Center for a crucial two-game homestand against the Pepperdine Waves and Loyola Marymount Lions.
• Thursday's game against Pepperdine is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip-off live on TheW.tv with Ben Creighton and Lindsay Gregg calling the action.
• Saturday's game against LMU will also tip at 7 p.m. and be aired live on ROOT Sports NW with Tom Glasgow and Jack Sikma providing commentary.
• All Portland basketball games will be aired live on Sports 910 (KMTT) with pregame coverage beginning 30 minutes prior to tip-off. Bill Johnson will call the play-by-play all season long.
TICKETS & PROMOTIONS
• Tickets start at $10 for adults and $5 for kids and are available through all Ticketmaster outlets, at the Pilot Box Office, or one hour prior to tip-off at the door.
• Thursday will feature the annual Halftime Mile on the upstairs Chiles Center track. Portland's nationally-renowned distance track team will go up against tough competition in a mile race for fans to see up close in person at halftime.
• Saturday will feature a Kids Zone with inflatables and other activities on the upper mezzanine.
ABOUT THE PILOTS
• Portland earned a big road sweep with wins over San Francisco (69-57) and Santa Clara (74-54) last week.
• Kevin Bailey and Alec Wintering scored 20 points each in the victory over the Dons.
• Bailey, Thomas van der Mars and Bryce Pressley scored 16 points each in the rout of Santa Clara.
• Van der Mars became UP's all-time leader in blocked shots on Saturday (104) and also is in the top 10 in rebounds and FG pct.
• Wintering leads the WCC in three-point percentage (.519) and also ranks top six in assists, steals, FT pct. and assist-to-turnover ratio.
• Bailey has 1,241 career points which ranks 16th in school history and is 25 points shy of cracking the Top 10.
• The Pilots rank 28th nationally in three-point percentage (.391), 31st in assists per game (15.3), 35th in rebounding margin (+5.2), and 47th in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.24.
• Wintering has two game-winning three-pointers this season. He opened WCC play at San Diego with a three with 0.3 seconds left for a three-point win and then beat the buzzer in Portland's 72-69 win versus Pacific.
• Bailey leads the Pilots in scoring at 13.8 per game and is 15 points shy of cracking the all-time top 10 in school history.
• Bailey missed eight games with a foot injury suffered against Portland State on Dec. 3 before returning to the court versus Santa Clara on Jan. 8.
• A four-year starter, Bailey averaged 16.5 points per game a year ago before missing the final seven games with a leg injury. He ranks 12th in career points and ninth all-time in blocked shots at Portland.
• Van der Mars is also a four-year starter and he's the 37th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points. He was also an Academic All-American last year.
• Senior C Riley Barker suffered a season-ending knee injury vs. Santa Clara.
• Portland is 5-2 this season in games decided by five points or less after finishing 1-7 last season.
• Portland returns four starters and seven of the top eight scorers from last year's team that finished 15-16 overall.
• Portland added five newcomers to the roster this season with four freshmen and a junior college transfer. Four of the newcomers have Pacific Northwest ties, while the fifth is 7-footer Philipp Hartwich (Cologne, Germany).
• Freshmen Jason Todd, D'Marques Tyson and Gabe Taylor have grown into key rotation players early in the WCC season with Todd and Taylor each earning their first career start at Pepperdine.
• Head Coach Eric Reveno added experience to his staff in the offseason with the addition of veteran NBA head coach Herb Brown and former Portland Trail Blazers video coordinator Tim Grass.
• The Pilots have signed three high school seniors to NLI's already: Jazz Johnson (Lake Oswego, Ore/Lake Oswego HS), Colin Russell (Folsom, Calif./Folsom HS) and Chiir Maker (Sydney, Australia/Newington College). Johnson broke the Les Schwab Invitational scoring record by averaging 35.0 points per game against elite national competition earlier this year... Russell is a McDonald's All-America nominee... Maker recently scored 49 points in a loss to Rainier Beach (Wash.) as part of a Pacific Northwest Tour with Newington College.
ABOUT PEPPERDINE
• The Waves are tied for third place in the WCC standings with BYU after a home split last week.
• Pepperdine earned a season sweep of BYU with Thursday's 80-74 win against the Cougars.
• Pepperdine followed with a 72-50 loss to San Diego on Saturday.
• Head coach Marty Wilson is in his fourth season as the head coach of the Waves and features no seniors on this year's roster.
• Wilson is a former player for the Waves and assisted Tom Asbury before being named head coach.
• The Waves are 5-2 in WCC road games this season and have won five of the last six against the Pilots.
• In the first meeting between the two teams in Malibu on Jan. 17th, the Pilots led for a majority of the game before Pepperdine pulled out a late 67-63 victory.
