THIS WEEK• Portland will conclude the regular season with a pair of home games at the Chiles Center will WCC Tournament seeding ramifications on the line.
• The Pilots host third-place BYU on Thursday at 7 p.m., and then take on San Diego Saturday at 1 p.m. Portland and San Diego are currently tied for fifth in the league standings, one game ahead of both San Francisco and San Diego.
• Thursday's game will be televised live on ROOT Sports NW with Tom Glasgow and Jack Sikma on the call.
• Saturday is the WCC Game of the Week and will air on Time Warner Cable SportsNet and ROOT Sports NW. Barry Tompkins and Casey Jacobsen will provide the commentary.
• All Portland basketball games will be aired live on Sports 910 (KMTT) with pregame coverage beginning 30 minutes prior to tip-off. Bill Johnson will call the play-by-play all season long.
TICKETS & PROMOTIONS• Thursday night is CYO night and all kids wearing their CYO jerseys will receive free admission. Regular game tickets start at $10 for kids and $15 for adults on Thursday. • Saturday will also feature the annual Halftime Paper Airplane Toss. The fan that comes closer to hitting the target at halfcourt will win a trip for two to Hawaii.
• Saturday will also feature a free Kids Zone on the Chiles Center mezzanine.
ABOUT THE PILOTS• Portland dropped a pair of road games last week with a 68-51 loss at Saint Mary's, followed by a 79-77 overtime loss at Pacific.
• The Pilots trailed by just two at halftime against Saint Mary's, but surrendered an 18-0 run midway through the second half. The loss snapped a four-game win streak for the Pilots. Senior C Thomas van der Mars recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
• Pacific overcame a nine-point deficit in the final five minutes to force overtime and pulled out the win on Saturday. Portland senior G Kevin Bailey scored all 14 Pilot points in overtime and finished with a career-high 30 points.
• The Pilots are tied for fifth place in the WCC standings with San Diego, as the top six finishers earn a first round WCC Tournament bye.
• Portland swept Pepperdine and LMU at home last week, after picking up a big road sweep at San Francisco and Santa Clara the previous week.
• Thomas van der Mars is UP's all-time leader in blocked shots (112) and is also top 10 in rebounds, FG pct., and games started.
• Sophomore PG Wintering leads the WCC in three-point percentage (.508) and also ranks top five in assists, steals, and assist-to-turnover ratio.
• Bailey has 1,310 career points which ranks eighth in school history.
• The Pilots rank 30th nationally in three-point percentage (.390) and assists per game (15.4), 42nd in rebounding margin (+4.7), and 43rd in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.27).
• Wintering has two game-winning three-pointers this season. He opened WCC play at San Diego with a three with 0.3 seconds left for a three-point win and then beat the buzzer in Portland's 72-69 win versus Pacific on Jan. 22.
• Bailey missed eight games with a foot injury suffered against Portland State on Dec. 3 before returning to the court versus Santa Clara on Jan. 8.
• A four-year starter, Bailey averaged 16.5 points per game a year ago before missing the final seven games with a leg injury.
• Van der Mars is a four-year starter and was an Academic All-America last year.
• Portland is 6-3 this season in games decided by five points or less after finishing 1-7 last season.
• Head Coach Eric Reveno added experience to his staff in the offseason with the addition of veteran NBA head coach Herb Brown and former Portland Trail Blazers video coordinator Tim Grass.
ABOUT BYU• The Cougars (21-8, 11-5 WCC) are on a four-game win streak and currently sit alone in third place in the WCC standings after posting a 75-62 win over San Diego in their lone game last week.
• BYU is led by the NCAA's third leading scorer this season, senior G Tyler Haws who averages a WCC-best 22.4 points per game. Haws is seven points shy of passing Jimmer Fredette as the school's all-time leading scorer.
• Junior G Kyle Collinsworth has set an NCAA single-season record with five triple-doubles this season
• Head coach Dave Rose is in his ninth season and has a 243-83 record.
• BYU defeated the Pilots by a 97-88 margin earlier this season in Provo.
• Last year the team's split the season series with the Pilots pulling out a thrilling 114-110 triple overtime win at the Chiles Center.
