CORVALLIS, Ore. --- Portland's Turner Gill belted his fourth home run of the season, but the Oregon State Beavers used a five run third inning to claim a 12-3 win over the Pilots on Tuesday night at Goss Stadium. The Pilots will next turn their attention to the West Coast Conference when they travel to San Diego this weekend.

Gill's home run came in the top of the fourth inning after the Beavers had taken control of the game with five runs in the third. With Lucarelli on first base following a single, Gill left the yard over the wall in left field.

But Oregon State (14-3) responded with two runs in the fourth, one run in both the fifth and sixth and two more in the seventh inning en route to the win.

Portland (4-16) starter Jordan Wilcox takes the loss after getting charged with eight runs, seven earned, on nine hits and three walks. Kurt Yinger and Jake Hawken followed Wilcox on the mound.

OSU's Sam Tweedt (3-0) stays perfect o the year by working 5.1 innings. He held the Pilots to just four hits, which led to three runs, and he fanned six. Relievers Luke Heimlich and John Pomeroy combined to hold the Pilots scoreless during the final 3.2 innings.

The Beavers scored the game's first run in the bottom of the first inning and Portland's Kevin Farley drove in a run in the top of the sixth inning. Caleb Whalen led off the sixth with a double before eventually scoring on the RBI ground-out by Farley.

Oregon State totaled 13 hits, Michael Howard had three RBI's and Trevor Morrison went 3-for-5.

The Pilots' WCC series with the San Diego Toreros in San Diego, Calif., opens with a 6 p.m. game on Friday night. Saturday's game is also scheduled for 6 p.m., while the finale on Sunday will begin at 12 p.m.

Portland's scheduled non-conference game at home next Tuesday with Washington has been postponed due to final exams at UW.
