Sept. 17, 2015Yo,
So I've gotten some feedback about the last two blogs. There were both negatives and positives. Beginning with the positives: the team thinks they are funny and my family thinks they are good. Negatives: Lisa (Coach) was confused. So was Whitney (Director of Operations). Lisa actually called me personally to let me know she was puzzled. If you agree with Whitney and Lisa, then I apologize. Going forward I will try to be more clear in whatever I am talking about. A positive that came out of Lisa's constructive criticisms was a lot of new blog ideas for the future. I actually think Lisa would be a great blogger, so keep your eyes peeled for Lisa's first blog post.
This week we had our annual "families dinner." This is when the team -- and as many of our family members who can make it -- gets together for a fun afternoon. I really enjoy these because it is a special time to get to know a little bit more about our teammates' families, see where they come from, and what makes them, them. Parents are chatting, siblings are playing, food is present – it's a nice time.
This year, the dinner was at Ellie Boon's house in Washougal, Washington. It was really cool to see where Ellie comes from because her hometown is so supportive. Ellie has, by far, the biggest fan section of every game and I wouldn't be surprised if you told me 50% of all of Washougal attends every one of our games. Needless to say, I get down with Washougal.
Anyway, Ellie and her family did an amazing job putting together a really fun event. For starters, they rented a Greek food cart, which was probably the best idea ever. We all had gyros, which were a fun learning experience for everyone who pronounced gyro as "Jai-Roh" (For reference, they are pronounced like "euro").
Another great part of the evening involved the goats. The Boons have three goats; two little guys, and one fainting goat. They were a hit, obviously. Alyssa led the group of those who were trying to get the fainting goat to live up to its name. Unfortunately it did not faint, but it was a fun time – at least for us, probz not the goat though. And the little ones were so cute, oh my gosh. At one point they were eating Dieks' hair, they tried eating my earrings, they knocked my sister over. They were the best.
Here is a picture of Alyssa with "Snickers" one of the little goats.
Anyway, that was a highlight of the week. Currently, we are on the bus to UW, looking to progress positively into our season before conference starts in a couple weeks.
Thanks for reading!
Deuces,
HGB
