FRESNO, Calif. --- The Portland Pilots extended their win streak to ten with a 3-1 win over the UC Davis Aggies at the Fresno Classic on Friday night. Emily Liger led the Pilots again today with 23 kills and a hitting percentage of .333.

Portland (10-1) kept their win streak alive with set scores of 25-18, 20-25, 25-13, and 25-18.

The first set belonged to the Pilots who pulled away early from UC Davis (5-8) 13-7. Portland controlled the momentum and a nice little roll shot by Sarah Savoca gave the Pilots an eight point lead at 18-10. UC Davis fended off three Portland set points before Liger hit her sixth kill of the set to put the Pilots ahead on the match 1-0.
Mikaela Nocetti, Monica Gajda, and Liger each registered a service ace during the set.

The second set was completely opposite of the first set. UC Davis responded by jumping out to a 7-1 lead. The six point difference remained constant through the set as the Pilots battled the momentum. Portland went on a 6-1 run late to cut the lead to five at 23-18. The Aggies earned the next point to set themselves up for set point. The Pilots turned away two set points before UC Davis got the set winner and tied up the match 1-1. Liger led Portland and UC Davis with 12 kills through the second set.

Portland came out strong in the third and used a four point run with Morgan Robinson serving to gain the early advantage 8-4. The Pilots extended the lead to seven at 14-7 off of a huge kill by Hannah Troutman. Robinson continued her impressive serving during the set with back-to-back service aces to extend the Portland lead to 9 at 20-11. The gap would be too much for the Aggies to come back from as Portland rolled to the third set win 25-13.

Set number four differed from the previous three. Portland and UC Davis battled for the lead and the momentum.
Through the middle of the set the Pilots and the Aggies alternated points until Portland strung a pair of points together to go up 17-15. Troutman and Brittney Markwith combined for the fifth block of the match to keep the lead to two. Portland closed out the final set with a 5-0 run to win the match.

Portland used 11 service aces to beat UC Davis.

The Pilots will return to action on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. when they take on the Southern Utah Thunderbirds in their final match of the Fresno Classic.Â
