PORTLAND, Ore. --- The Michigan Wolverines opened the scoring with three first-half goals before claiming a 5-0 win over the Portland Pilots to begin the Nike Husky Invite at Husky Soccer Field on Friday afternoon. The Pilots (1-3-0) will next set their sights on Illinois, who they play on Sunday to conclude their stay in Seattle.
Â
After 35 minutes of scoreless soccer, the first Michigan (4-1-0) goal came on a counter after Portland's Noelle La Prevotte had a shot saved. Lulu Haidar found the top right corner of the net off a pass from Taylor Timko, handing the Wolverines a 1-0 lead. It's Haidar's fourth goal of the year.
Â
The second goal came only minutes later after the ball was loose momentarily inside the box. Jessica Heifetz finished to make it a 2-0 game, and the lead would stretch to 3-0 just before the half when Timko found the back of the net.
Â
After the break, Reilly Martin scored 50 seconds in when she finished off the right post on a ball from Ani Sarkisian. Abby Kastroll capped the scoring for Michigan with a goal in the 78th min.
Â
La Prevotte and Ellie Boon both had a pair of shots for the Pilots, who placed half of their eight attempts on-goal.
Â
Sunday's game with the Fighting Illini is set for 12 p.m.
