This month, we profile UP Women's Soccer Goalkeeper Hanna de Haan and her international student-athlete experience at the University of Portland. de Haan came to UP from Germany in the Fall of 2014 and has flourished both on the soccer pitch and in the classroom. "I have known Hanna de Haan since August 2014 when she was enrolled in my CST 107 Effective Public Speaking class," said Sheri Rooks, a professor in the Communication Studies Department at UP. "Hanna established herself as an intelligent, hard-working student in a challenging course. Initially, she was apprehensive about delivering speeches in her second language (English). By embracing public speaking opportunities and feedback, Hanna developed an engaging delivery to complement her intellect. Recently, Hanna was featured in an interview with KGW's Drew Carney. She expressed herself in a thoughtful and vibrant manner. This confident, dynamic interaction grew from Hanna's initiative and dedication in the classroom. Not only is Hanna de Haan a remarkable scholar-athlete, but she is an impressive person. I am proud to know her!"

Also on the show, we sit down with University of Portland Provost and Professor of Education Dr. Thomas Greene to discuss the relationship between Academics and Athletics at the University of Portland.

Plus, the 2016 Athletics Hall of Fame class, and a look at the strong start to the season for the UP Men's Soccer team.
