SPOKANE, Wash. --- The Gonzaga Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead and never looked back en route to an 86-51 win over the Portland Pilots in a West Coast Conference women's basketball game played on Saturday afternoon at the McCarthey Athletic Center. Junior Kaylie Van Loo and freshman Ellie Woerner led the Pilots with 13 points each.

Woerner continues her impressive first year at Portland (3-22, 1-13 WCC) by scoring in double digits for the 19th time this season and for the 13th time in the past 14 games. Woerner ranks ninth in the WCC in scoring and is second among the league's freshmen. Against the Bulldogs she hit three three-pointers and shot 5-for-9 overall.

Van Loo is also enjoying a breakout season for the Pilots as she reaches double figures in points for the third straight game. Van Loo dished three assists on Saturday, and she's averaging 4.6 dimes per WCC contest, which ranks second in the conference.

But the Bulldogs (17-9, 9-5 WCC) proved to be too much to overcome as Gonzaga scored the game's first 11 points. The lead would soon swell to 20 points and the Bulldogs limited the Pilots to just 16 first-half points. Portland recovered a bit during the third quarter, out-scoring Gonzaga 19-16 in the frame, but the Bulldogs sealed the win with a 23-point fourth.

Gonzaga shot 55.4 percent overall, went 16-for-19 at the line and connected on eight three-pointers. The Pilots shot 37.5 percent from the floor, hit 10 of 13 free throws and combined for five three's as a team.

Jill Barta led four Bulldogs in double figures with a game-high 27 points, and Shelby Cheslek nearly recorded a double-double with 10 points and eight boards.

The Pilots remain on the road next week when they head to Stockton, Calif., to face the Pacific Tigers on Thursday night at 7 p.m. Saturday brings a trip to Moraga, Calif., for a 1 p.m. game with Saint Mary's.
