STOCKTON, Calif. --- The Pacific Tigers jumped out to an early lead before cruising to an 87-38 win over the Portland Pilots in a West Coast Conference women's basketball game played on Thursday night at the Alex G. Spanos Center. Freshman Darian Slaga had a nice night off the bench for the Pilots, finishing with a team-high 13 points.
Pacific (12-14, 5-10 WCC) surged ahead to begin the first quarter and claimed a 13-4 lead four minutes in. Portland (3-23, 1-13 WCC) did well to recover and pulled within four with a lay-up by Ashley Gray and a pair of free throws from Julie Spencer. But moments later Pacific's lead was 10, and the Tigers never looked back from there.
The Pilots did out-score the Tigers in the fourth quarter, but the deficit was too much to overcome.
The Tigers shot 54.1 percent on the night, hit six three-pointers and went 15-for-21 at the free throw line. Najah Queenland (14 points, 10 rebounds) and Mauriana Clayton (13 points, 10 rebounds) both had double-doubles to lead Pacific.
Slaga hit four of seven from the field, which included 2-for-3 on three-pointers, to score in double figures for the seventh time this season. It's also the fourth time to lead the team in scoring.
The Pilots next play their final road game of the season at Saint Mary's on Saturday. Tip-off at McKeon Pavilion at 1 p.m.
