PORTLAND, Ore. --- Portland men's soccer head coach Nick Carlin-Voigt has added another recruit to the 2016 class as Drew Boyd from the Real So Cal Academy has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the Pilots as a freshman in the fall. Boyd is the fourth recruit to sign with Carlin-Voigt and the Pilots.
Boyd is currently focusing on his club team after spending three years playing center back for Hart High School. With Hart, Boyd landed on the All-CIF First Team (Southern Section), was named to the All-Area Team and was selected to the All-Foothill League First Team. He helped lead his team to a pair of league titles, and they reached the CIF Championships, going 25-2-4 while only conceding eight goals the entire year. A scholar athlete, he was named the team's best defensive player and he earned the coach's award.
Boyd competes in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy with Real So Cal after spending four years with the SCU Magic.
"Andrew is the consummate student-athlete as he's maintained a 4.0 GPA during his high school career," said Carlin-Voigt. "He will fit into our team-first culture, and he will bring needed depth at the center back position. He comes from a very good club development system with Real So Cal, and he's received elite coaching from Zach Feldman. Special credit goes to our assistant coach Leonard Griffin for leading the recruiting process for Andrew to become our next Pilot."
Boyd joins a class that already includes
Gio Magaña-Rivera,
Rey Ortiz and
